{"id":14141,"date":"2021-02-14T22:52:02","date_gmt":"2021-02-14T22:52:02","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.musicyoucanread.com\/?page_id=14141"},"modified":"2021-02-14T22:53:14","modified_gmt":"2021-02-14T22:53:14","slug":"form-in-music","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.musicyoucanread.com\/?page_id=14141","title":{"rendered":"Form in Music"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"wpb-content-wrapper\"><p>[vc_row top=&#8221;0px&#8221; bottom=&#8221;0px&#8221;][vc_column width=&#8221;1\/2&#8243;][vc_column_text]<strong>Form\/Patterns in music train the mind to see and hear patterns in other languages.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Language development, and even brain development, is largely based on the ability to recognize similarities and differences in visual perceptions.\u00a0 Reading is the ability of the brain to make associations with the visual field.\u00a0 Music has far fewer symbols than English or other written languages, pattern recognition is easier to grasp and build upon as a foundation.\u00a0 As the brain becomes stronger recognizing the musical patterns, visual and auditory, the ability to recognize patterns in other languages improves as well.<\/p>\n<p><strong>When do you start?\u00a0<\/strong><br \/>\nFrom the very first lesson, to the last song read, before going to middle school, pattern recognition, or FORM, is identified in the scores or songs read.\u00a0 Even in utilizing the rhythm drills, FORM is ever present.\u00a0 Later FORM is reinforced through pattern identification within the individual FORMATS.<\/p>\n<p><strong>FORM in FORMATS?\u00a0<\/strong><br \/>\nEach FORMAT will symbolize form as it relates to measured BEATS, RHYTHMS, PITCHES, and sometimes TEXT.\u00a0 FORM is also beneficial to learning fingerings for keyboard or recorder and playing patterns on percussion instruments.<\/p>\n<p>When reading a FORMAT, the instructor will habitually ask, &#8220;Raise your hand if you see a pattern.&#8221;\u00a0\u00a0 In time, students will begin to raise their hands after reading the chart one time.\u00a0 A second reading will bring more offers of identification, before the question is even asked.\u00a0 The students have transitioned into seeking the answer while reading.<\/p>\n<p><em>&#8220;Raise your hand if you see any patterns.&#8221; \u2028&#8221;If this staff is an apple, what could this staff be called?&#8221; \u2028&#8221;Is the beat pattern the same, or is the pitch pattern the same? \u2028&#8221;Are there any smaller patterns within the larger patterns?&#8221; \u2028&#8221;If this staff is &#8220;A,&#8221; What would this staff be called?\u00a0 And this one?&#8221;<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><em>&#8220;So, if these two are the same, what&#8217;s this staff?&#8221; (DIFFERENT)\u00a0 &#8220;It&#8217;s O.K.!&#8221; \u2028&#8221;No it isn&#8217;t.&#8221;<br \/>\n&#8220;Yes it is.\u00a0 If it wasn&#8217;t different, it would sound boring.\u00a0 Sometimes being different is a good thing.&#8221;\u00a0<\/em>[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][vc_column width=&#8221;1\/2&#8243;][vc_column_text]<\/p>\n<div><strong>As a teaching strategy and skill development, suggested questions for pattern recognition are included on many formats.<\/strong><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><em><br \/>\nWill FORM be mastered?<\/em><\/div>\n<div>Students will master the concept of SIMPLE patterns very quickly. \u00a0The increasing difficulty in song selection, as the student is promoted, will reinforce and strengthen FORM&#8217;S importance in learning, writing, or performing music.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><em><br \/>\nWho benefits?\u00a0<\/em><\/div>\n<div>The benefits from pattern\/form recognition and use will be a life long reward. \u00a0From early brain development in language skills, to creative application of FORM in new arenas, learning FORM in life, is learning LIFE .<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><em><br \/>\nCurriculum tie-ins:<\/em><\/div>\n<div>Pattern recognition is a universal concept; Language Arts, Math, Science, Health, Social Studies, Physical Education, Computer Science, Art, all have pattern recognition at their core of instruction, and creativity.<\/div>\n<div>The General Music Curriculum will introduce this concept FIRST.<\/div>\n<div>Through a collaboration of all disciplines FORM begins but never ends!<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><em><br \/>\nAssessments:<\/em><\/div>\n<ul>\n<li>Listen to these four phrases. Using letters A, B, C, or D, label the pattern or form of the rhythm. Melody.<\/li>\n<li>Using colored markers, draw quarter notes showing a Rondo Form in colors.<\/li>\n<li>What is this pattern or form called, A B A C A D A E A?<\/li>\n<li>Can the melody&#8217;s pitch pattern be different from the rhythm pattern?<\/li>\n<li>How does Form help in learning to sing or play a music selection.<\/li>\n<li>What other subjects use Form to learn new information? \u00a0How?<\/li>\n<li>What is the Form\/Pattern of a major scale?
